ABOUT US
Dr. Jason Marion has been assessing water quality for 20 years in low-resource settings from Appalachia to Kenya’s Rift Valley. Marion received his PhD in Public Health specializing in environmental health and epidemiology from The Ohio State University (OSU) where he was a Public Health Preparedness for Infectious Diseases Fellow. Dr. Marion currently is an associate professor of environmental health science at Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) and the founder and CEO of Eastern Scientific, LLC. Since 2012, Marion has worked closely with EKU’s robust Kenyan student population on practical health-relevant water and dairy assessments with students, Moi University, Kisii University, and local officials.
We are immensely thankful and indebted to the amount of wisdom we have gained from students, citizen scientists, university faculty, our Kenyan friends who we love like family, and many citizen volunteers from communities in Central Appalachia and Western Kenya who have volunteered household water samples. The innovations realized have been part of the steady progress of science in trying to address our shared and common issues related to testing water when resources are limited. We look to continue to innovate and would love to add new partners including U.S. philanthropists, NGOs, educators, and watershed monitoring organizations.
